Dental Implants

Our Family Dentistry in Columbia Creates Beautiful Smiles

Our dentist can place a dental implant in your jaw, and when it’s healed, add a mount and porcelain tooth. Your new dental implant addition will perform just like your natural teeth and blend in with them too, giving you a gorgeous and natural-looking smile that’s whole again. The best part is that dental implants are the best way to take care of your oral health and replace missing teeth. This is because dental implant treatment helps keep your jawbone strong and healthy.

While traditional dentures and dental bridges are a good solution to replace missing teeth, dental implants are the best for your overall oral health. Plus, dental implants look and feel more natural. Dr. Stewart can match the size, shape, and color of your new crown to your natural teeth. Once your dental implant restoration is complete, no one will even be able to tell it’s a dental implant!

Whether you have one missing tooth or several missing teeth, or need dental implant restorations, our dental professionals will take care of your needs. Call us at

Types of Dental Implants

There are 2 types of implants: Endosteal (meaning “within the bone”) and Subperiosteal (meaning “below the membrane which surrounds the bone,” a.k.a. your gum tissue).

  • Endosteal dental implants are surgically implanted right into your jawbone. This is the most common type of dental implant. Dr. Stewart will administer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. After the gum tissue heals, these implants are connected to a post during a second surgery. Then an artificial tooth or teeth is either individually attached or grouped on a denture or bridge.
  • Subperiosteal dental implants are used when there is not enough healthy jawbone available to support a regular dental implant. This procedure involves inserting a metal frame just under the gum tissue that’s fitted onto the jawbone, which will also require local anesthesia to keep you comfortable. Once the gums heal, the frame fixes onto it, and posts are attached that extend through the gums. The last step for this one is the same, with artificial teeth being placed on the posts.

Which Type of Dental Implant Will I Get?

We can help decide which type of dental implant is right for your dental health. Dr. Stewart and his team will give you a comprehensive examination at your first appointment. This will enable him to see if your jawbone is healthy enough to support regular dental implants.

If your jawbone is not healthy enough, but you would prefer dental implants that go into your bone, you may need to get a bone graft procedure first to improve the strength of your jawbone. Dr. Stewart will talk to you about all of your options at your consultation and help you make the decision that’s right for your needs.

Why You Should Consider Dental Implants

If you’ve never had a dental implant before, you may be wondering why you need one. The answer lies in the anatomy of your natural teeth. When you smile, you can only see the crown of your tooth. But the roots of each of your teeth go deep into your gums and connect to your jawbone. This serves two important purposes:

  • It keeps your teeth secure and strong in your mouth, allowing you to bite and chew with ease.

  • When you bite, the pressure is absorbed by your tooth and travels through the roots to your jawbone. This stimulates your jawbone, which keeps it strong and healthy, too.

Why is that important? Because when you’re missing a tooth, that portion of your jawbone does not get the proper stimulation it needs to be healthy. Over time, your bone mass will deteriorate, affecting your appearance and the strength of your bite. It can even cause the teeth nearby to be less secure and fall out, as well.

Replacing lost teeth keeps the remaining ones from moving to fill in the gap, which prevents future oral health problems. You also get to eat what you want and never worry about dentures falling out or moving around in your mouth. Aside from regular brushing, flossing, and checkups, there’s no extra maintenance either. Restoring your smile with dental implants is one of the best choices you can make for your dental health.

What patients are saying about Smile Savers Dentistry

"I had my reservations before I went to Smile Savers Dentistry but after meeting with the doctor (Dr. Daniel Stewart) and his staff, I was glad that I did go to him for my implant and fillings. The best part was when he called personally to check how I was doing after the implant. The staff is very cordial and accommodating. Now he has become our family Dental doctor. Everyone in our family see him."
- Bharath R.

"Dr. Stewart and his very talented staff literally saved my smile. I discovered them a few years ago after terrible dental experiences had scared me away from the dentist for a couple of years. They are welcoming and didn't judge me for my previous dental neglect. I never thought it was possible to enjoy the dentist, but now I do! I love chatting with the friendly staff and knowing I'm getting excellent care! "

The Cost of Dental Implants

Dental implants cost more than traditional dentures or dental bridges because they are a permanent, more secure solution to replace missing teeth. Even though they are one of the more expensive tooth replacement procedures, we have ways of helping you afford it. Our practice provides discounts for senior citizens in addition to low and no interest financing through Care Credit and Lending Club Patient Financing. We make it a point to always inform you of all costs before starting treatment, so you can make the decision and payment method that’s right for your budget.

How Long Will Dental Implants Last?

Unlike traditional dentures and bridges, which have to be replaced every 5-8 years on average, dental implants are designed to last a lifetime. This is because they are made of titanium, which is strong enough to withstand the pressure of your bite without degrading over time.

Your dental crown (the new tooth that gets attached to the dental implant) may need to be replaced at some point, depending on the type of material used to make it. But most crowns can last about 15 years, and they can last much longer than that with proper oral hygiene and routine checkups at Smile Savers Dentistry.

Dental Implants: Benefits and Advantages

  1. Permanent Teeth Replacement: Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth. They provide a stable, long-lasting base for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. Dental implants are a long-term investment that can improve your oral health.
  2. Improved Oral Health: Dental implants do not require adjacent teeth to be ground to support the restoration. Instead, they preserve the integrity and strength of the surrounding teeth. Implants help to maintain jawbone density by replacing the tooth root that is missing and stimulating it. This helps prevent jawbone deterioration after tooth loss. This improves oral health and helps prevent the sunken look that is often associated with missing teeth.
  3. Improved Stability and Function: Dental Implants provide unmatched stability and support to replace teeth. This allows you to smile, eat, and speak with confidence. Dental implants provide a more secure fit than removable dentures that can slip or move while you are eating or talking.
  4. Natural Appearance: One of the greatest benefits of dental implants is their natural looks. Dr. Patel can customize the size and shape of your replacement teeth so that they blend seamlessly into your smile. The result is natural-looking. Dental implants can enhance the beauty of your smile and improve your facial aesthetics, whether you are replacing a single or multiple teeth.
  5. Preserving Facial Structure: Losing teeth can cause changes in the facial structure. This can include sagging cheeks and lips that can prematurely age you. Dental implants preserve facial structure because they maintain bone density and support the surrounding tissues. This gives you a youthful, vibrant look and helps maintain facial contours.
  6. Increased Confidence & Quality of Life: Dental implants have a significant impact on confidence and quality. Implants restore your smile's functionality and aesthetics. This allows you to laugh, speak, and socialize confidently, which improves your self-esteem. Dental implants can give you a better quality of life, and more freedom to enjoy your life.

The Dental Implant Process at Smile Savers Dentistry

We at Smile Savers Dentistry understand that restoring a smile is an important decision. That's why we strive to provide a seamless, comfortable experience. What to expect from the dental implant procedure:

  1. Initial Consultation: During the initial consultation Dr. Patel will assess your oral health and discuss your treatment goals. She will also determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. You can ask questions about the procedure, and find out more about what you can expect.
  2. Treatment Plan: Dr. Patel creates a customized treatment plan based on your specific needs and goals. This plan will detail the number of dental implants required, the type and amount of restorations, as well as any other procedures necessary to achieve optimal results.
  3. Dental Implant Placement: is usually performed under sedation or local anesthesia to ensure comfort. Dr. Patel will place the implants surgically into the jawbone where they will act as artificial teeth roots. In some cases, you may leave our office with an implanted smile.
  4. Osseointegration and Healing: Over the next weeks and months the implants will fuse to the surrounding bone tissue by a process known as osseointegration. During this period, Dr. Patel monitors your progress to ensure the implants heal properly.
  5. Final Restorative: Once the implants are fully integrated into the bone, Dr. Patel attaches a custom-crafted restorative to the implants. This completes your smile transformation. Your new teeth are carefully adjusted for a comfortable fit and a natural appearance. This allows you to fully enjoy the benefits of your restored smile.
